High emotional intensity, vulnerable people, limited privacy, and real power imbalances between staff and the families they serve.
The Programme
The modules are sequential by design: each builds on the skill established by the one before. They can run as a full programme or be selected individually for role-specific needs.
Introduces the core concept of safety awareness — what it is, why it matters, and how it differs from paranoia or hypervigilance. Teaches baseline and deviation, and sets the tone for everything that follows: calm, observant, capable.
Teaches participants to identify behavioural and environmental indicators that a situation may be shifting, across four categories — verbal, physical, behavioural, and environmental. The goal is never to label people; it is to develop the skill of noticing earlier.
Once something is noticed, the next skill is assessment. This module develops structured decision-making under mild pressure using the S‑T‑O framework — what is happening, what resources exist, what an appropriate response looks like.
The most practical module in the programme. It bridges awareness and assessment into actual behaviour — how to communicate, respond, and keep everyone safe without escalating. Entirely non-physical: language, tone, posture, boundary-setting, and asking for support.
The closing module shifts from skill to habit. One-time training does not produce lasting change — this session gives participants a personal sustainability framework of small, consistent practices that deepen readiness over time.
How We Teach It
Our instructor scenario library spans five sectors. Every scenario is drawn from situations people in those roles actually meet — built around genuine indicators, real decision points, and a structured debrief.
High emotional intensity, vulnerable people, limited privacy, and real power imbalances between staff and the families they serve.
Acute emotional distress, complex trauma histories, and staff often working alone. Focuses on de-escalation, boundaries, and lone-worker planning.
High-volume, often understaffed environments with constant public contact — including closing shifts and working alone.
Access and visitor questions, difficult departures, and noticing when a colleague's behaviour has changed.
A duty of care to participants and staff alike, including managing group dynamics and sustained attention toward an instructor.
Scenario selection happens during planning. Where our library doesn't match your setting, we write new material against it — grounded in your own history and environment.
Full scenario material — indicator breakdowns, decision points, debrief structure and instructor guidance — is a confidential resource released to clients and licensed instructors under engagement.
